Canwood Gallery - Thursday 23rd July to Sunday 16th August.
Hay Camera Club is fortunate once again to have secured an exhibition and sale of prints with the Canwood Gallery.
Canwood is a prestigious art gallery based in rural Herefordshire. You can learn more about the gallery on their website at https://canwoodgallery.org/.
In the 1970s, Herefordshire farmer Stephen Dale faced a life-threatening battle with leukaemia. During his treatment at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, he found solace and inspiration in the art at the Tate Gallery, particularly Carl Andre’s controversial brick installation. This profound experience ignited Stephen’s passion for art and his desire to give back. Upon retirement, he established Canwood Gallery to share the inspiring and healing qualities of art with others.
The Gallery space for our exhibition this year will be the “Turbine Hall”, which we will be sharing with an exhibition of glass art.
The exhibition, entitled “Through the Glass Lens” brings together the photographers of Hay Camera Club and contemporary glass artists in a shared exploration of light, memory, and perception. Glass is central to both photography and glass making, not only as a physical material but as a way of shaping how light is gathered, held, and transformed. In photography, glass lenses frame and focus the world. In this exhibition, photography and glass are presented side by side, each approaching light from a different perspective. Photographic works capture powerful and memorable moments shaped by glass, from everyday encounters to extraordinary scenes, using light and timing to transform the familiar into something remarkable”.
Hay Camera Club will also host one or more photography workshops at the Canwood gallery during our exhibition. Keep an eye out for updates.”
